Morris Chestnut has made some sweet remarks about his marriage over the years! The Watson actor and his wife, Pam Byse, have been married for 30 years.

Who Is Morris Chestnut’s Wife Pam Byse?

Morris revealed how he first met Pam during a night out with pals and what led him to fall for her.

“We met in a club,” Morris said, per Blackdoctor.org. “I was doing something in Atlanta and at the time it was Deion Sanders, Ron Grant and a dude named Tiny Lister [Deebo from Friday]. I was doing a TV movie out there and I went to the club. Tiny was living in Atlanta. He knew the ins and outs of the city, and he was just like, Mr. Atlanta. We were hanging out in the club and he told me about this chick, that chick, whatever. Then I saw Pam, who is my wife, and I said, ‘What’s up with her?’ He said, ‘Nah, man, don’t waste your time. She don’t give anybody no play.’ So as soon as he said that, I was like, ‘That’s the woman I need to go holler at.’”

The Nurse Jackie alum said that he was attracted to Pam’s maternal qualities.

“One of the things that made me truly realize that I wanted her to be my wife is the way she was. She has three older sisters and they have kids,” he recalled. “Her nephew was very young at the time, and when we were dating I would see the way she was with kids. I’ve always thought that she was a good person and attractive and all that, but one of the primary reasons why I wanted her to be my wife was because I knew that she would be an excellent mother to my kids.”

When Did Morris Chestnut Marry Pam Byse?

Morris and Pam got married in 1995. After 30 years of marriage, the pair are still going strong.

“One of the main things we have is an ultimate respect for each other,” Morris said about what makes their marriage work. “When you’re with someone for a long time you kind of take them for granted. You can get very angry and very nasty during fights. It happens right? But there are times when we just don’t hit below the belt. We never say anything we can’t take back. We’ve just been very blessed to grow together.”

After three decades together, Morris has a pretty good handle on juggling his career, marriage and family.

“I’m in Hollywood, but Hollywood is not my life. I think a lot of the times what happens is people get so engrossed in the industry and the industry is their life and their friends. Everything is the industry,” he told Vibe in March 2016. “A lot of times people come in the industry and they’re either up one minute then they’re down one minute. That type of instability on a number of levels is difficult for everyone. Every marriage is going to unstable at times because you have to go through everything with someone. I’ve dealt with instabilities [ups and downs] in my career but it’s never been my life. It’s just been an aspect of my life.”

Morris and Pam have two kids. They welcomed son Grant shortly after they wed and daughter Paige in 1998. Grant is an account executive while Paige is a model.

In January 2023, Morris’ daughter shared a sweet tribute to her dad on his birthday.

“Happy Birthday Dad. I’m so proud of you and beyond blessed to have such a wise, kind-hearted, selfless, and inspiring person in my life,” she captioned a photo from Morris’ Hollywood Walk of Fame induction ceremony. “Love you to the moon and back.”
