Whoopi Goldberg Forced to Stay on ‘The View’ After Rosie O’Donnell’s Exit

Rosie O'Donnell's sudden decision to leave The View didn't just change the course of her career — it has halted Whoopi Goldberg's plans to leave the show, too.

According to a new report, Whoopi, 59, was allegedly planning to quit the popular daytime program to star in an 'ABC' series titled 'Delores and Jermaine.'

“Whoopi had the offer to play Delores, but 'ABC' pulled the offer right before Presidents’ Day weekend,” a network insider revealed.

On Tuesday, Feb. 17, Whoopi downplayed the reported 'The View' drama in a new interview. “I’m trying to get on ‘Empire’ and 'ABC' has a show that they want me to do… I’ve always been able to come and go as I choose. [My 'The View' contract allows] me to go and make movies if I wanted to or do something if I wanted to," she said.

“But it’s a lot of work to go and do two or three jobs at the same time. I’m getting older, and I don’t want to work that hard. So we’ll see how it all works out," the actress added.

Despite the change in her career plans, Whoopi had nothing but nice things to say about continuing her gig as moderator on 'The View' going forward.

"I’m very happy. I’m working. I never put down the fact that I have a really good job, but I also have bosses. They make decisions… sometimes you don’t like them and you have to live with them," she said.

On Friday, Feb. 6, Rosie's publicist confirmed the 52-year-old star would be leaving 'The View' after one season following a separation from her wife in November 2014. Her last appearance on the talk show was last Thursday, Feb. 12.
