What Really Happened to ‘General Hospital’s Peter August?

It looks like Peter August (Wes Ramsey) is about to become a very real part of the General Hospital scene again when Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) returns to Port Charles after several months in a mental institution in France. However, it appears she has not been fully cured because she is hallucinating her nephew, Peter August, a man she let die back in 2022. Who is Peter and how did he come to haunt Anna?

When Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) let it slip to Josslyn (Eden McCoy) that her father had four children, she was referring to Peter about one of those children. Peter arrived in Port Charles in 2018 as a book publisher, ready to work for Aurora Media. We soon learned that Peter was really Henrik Faison, the son that Anna had given up at birth, whom Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) then gave to his father, Cesar Faison (Anders Hove).

For about two years, Anna tried to forge a relationship with the son she thought she’d given up, but by 2020, Anna learned that she had not given birth to Peter at all. Instead, it was her sister, Alex, who slept with Faison and became pregnant. In a bizarre twin memory-mapping experiment, parts of Alex’s memories were implanted in Anna, making Anna believe she had really been pregnant and experienced childbirth.

While Peter bonded with Anna, he also grew close to Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms), the widow of his later brother Nathan (Ryan Paevey). Peter even delivered Maxie and Nathan’s little boy, James, on the side of the road after Maxie went into unexpected labor.

When the real truth about Peter’s parentage was revealed in 2021, Peter’s true colors finally came out in full force. The reveal took place at his wedding to a very pregnant Maxie, along with evidence of Peter’s crimes through the years. Thoroughly humiliated and feeling he had nothing more to lose, Peter dropped all pretenses of being one of the good guys and became a full-on villain.

For the next year, Peter lurked in the shadows while Maxie tried to hide their baby in plain sight by giving her to Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) to raise. Eventually, Peter kidnapped Bailey Lu and took her to Switzerland, where Anna, Felicia (Kristina Wagner), and Maxie tracked him down. Just before Peter was about to kill Maxie, Felicia struck him with a tire iron.

Anna stayed behind after telling Felicia and Maxie she would call an ambulance. However, she didn’t and allowed Peter to die. The man she had thought was her son turned out to be as evil as his father and she felt that letting him die was the right thing to do. However, Anna’s apparent next story arc proves that he never died in her mind.
