General Hospital alum Kelly Monaco had been missing in action from social media for more than a year before surprising fans with a sudden appearance on Instagram on May 23rd to mark a momentous milestone, her 50th birthday.
Kelly Monaco Shocks Fans With Instagram Post
Monaco, who was let go from General Hospital in 2024, among much controversy and fan consternation, hadn’t posted anything for 62 weeks when she shared a video of herself on a track doing calisthenics with some very special help. “Today I turned 50! There’s no place like home… coach @__monaco getting me back in shape.” In the video, you can see Monaco in training with her nephew, college football star Chris Monaco.
The actress’s fellow soap stars chimed in with birthday wishes, happy to see her back on social media after such a long hiatus.
“Happy Birthday to the coolest chick around!” wrote Kirsten Alderson, who played Starr and Kiki on GH. Lexi Ainsworth, who played Sam’s sister Kristina, chimed in with, “Looking fiine as ever.” Kimberly McCullough (ex-Robin) added, “Yes girl get it.”
Monaco wasn’t just a soap star. She was also a dancing sensation on Dancing With the Stars, becoming the competition show’s first-season winner. Tom Bergeron, the show’s former host, also offered well wishes, saying, “Those are the kind of moves that won you that 1st Mirror Ball Trophy.”
Excited fans were also thrilled to hear from Monaco, as they were up in arms in 2024 when she was abruptly let go from GH and her character, Sam McCall, was killed off.
“Happy Birthday Kelly, miss you soo much on GH. Scout is growing up and she needs her mom,” one fan said, referring to Monaco’s on-screen daughter.
Monaco made her ABC soap debut in 2000 on the General Hospital spin-off Port Charles as Livvie Locke. In 2003, she joined the cast of GH as Samantha McCall, a con artist who later became a private detective and devoted mom.
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC and streams weeknights on Hulu.
