On Saturday, Sept. 29, Gwyneth Paltrow married Brad Falchuk in a secret ceremony. But even though the actress has been a wife before, it’s clear she considers this marriage her first.

Gwyneth, 46, was married to Chris Martin, 41, from their 2003 elopement until their 2014 split, in which they credited “conscious uncoupling.” Their divorce was later finalized in 2016.  However, when she first got engaged to Brad, 47, in January, she couldn’t help but gush about her first wedding.

“I’m excited about everything! I’ve never had a wedding before. So even though I’m 45, I sort of feel like a 21-year-old,” she told People at the time.

She then went on to chronicle her love life by describing the types of relationships she’s been in over the years. “I had two typical types of relationships. One where I was constantly chasing and trying to win someone over, and one where I was put off by the person’s capacity for the relationship — and those relationships were very short-lived,” she shared.

But things changed when she met Brad. “For the first time, I feel like I’m in an adult relationship that is sometimes very uncomfortable — because he sort of demands a certain level of intimacy and communication that I haven’t been held to before,” Gwyneth considered.

Also, it’s hard to credit a marriage when you consider your ex-husband to be your “brother.” In a plethora of interviews, the blonde beauty has called Chris — whom she shared daughter Apple, 14, and son Moses, 12, with — just that.

“He’s really like my brother, we’re very familiar. It’s nice, it’s great,” the actress told Stephen Colbert during an appearance on The Late Show in January. “No?” Gwyneth asked, to which Stephen replied, “It’s just hard to describe someone you had children with as your brother.” Gwyneth then said, “Which would explain the divorce! No, I’m kidding.”

The Iron Man star also once explained how the two are actually friends today. “We spend a lot of time together… We’re still very much a family, even though we don’t have a romantic relationship. He’s like my brother,” Gwyneth has said. He wasn’t in attendance at Gwyn’s wedding this past weekend — but we’re glad he’s found love with girlfriend Dakota Johnson and Gwyneth with Brad!
