Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon’s New TV Show Has Been Picked up by Apple!

Back in July, it was reported that Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon were reuniting on the small screen — over a decade after Reese guest-starred as Jen’s sister on Friends — with the two set to star in a new TV show set in the world of morning talk shows. Now, it has been revealed that Apple, who is trying to compete with Silicon Valley rivals like Netflix and Amazon, has bought the rights to the new show, based on Brian Stelter’s book Top of the Morning. It’s a prestigious move for the TV newcomers, with both Jennifer and Reese also on board as executive producers.

While Jen’s jump to the small screen is an unexpected (but great) surprise — the actress’ recent big box office film credits include We’re The Millers, Horrible Bosses, and Mother’s Day — it was TV where she first rocketed to fame as Rachel Green on Friends. Starring in this upcoming series would mark Jennifer’s first regular TV role since Friends wrapped in 2004.

While recently speaking to Variety, Jen expressed an interest in returning to television. “I’ve thought about it a lot,” she said. “That’s where the work is. That’s where the quality is. At this point in my career, I want to be part of wonderful stories, exciting characters, and also just having a good time.”

Reese, on the other hand, has had Emmy-nominated success with her HBO mini series Big Little Lies this year, which she co-produced with Nicole Kidman. Following such a positive reception, Reese and Nicole are rumored to be working on a second season of the glossy but dark drama series also starring Shailene Woodley and Laura Dern, and may even be adapting another of Liane Moriarty’s novels for the small screen.
