Award show season will officially kick off on Jan. 6 when the Golden Globes air, so it is only right everyone is reminded of one of the most cringeworthy moments not only in award show history, but quite possibly in all of TV history. And unfortunately for Rob Lowe, it involved him.

The 54-year-old actor sat down with The New York Times to discuss the time he baffled everyone at the 1989 Academy Awards by doing a duet with… Snow White. “I remember vividly looking out in the audience and seeing Barry Levinson, who on that particular evening was the belle of the ball with Rain Man, and I could see him very clearly pop-eyed and mouthing, ‘What the f–k?’” Rob recalls. But it wasn’t all bad for the Parks and Recreation alum, because there was one comic legend that actually enjoyed his performance.

“I got to the green room and Lucille Ball told me she didn’t know I was such a good singer and made me sit next to her and hold her hand and watch the next 20 minutes of the Oscars,” Rob says, adding, “If it made Lucy happy, it made me happy, because I love Lucy.” And while people continue to talk about the disastrous and awkward moment 30 years later, Rob sees the positive in the moment. “I for sure have gotten more money and acclaim out of being in that Oscar opening number than if I had won an Oscar,” Rob reveals. “And that’s fitting.”

This wasn’t the only bizarre television moment Rob has been a part of, as he once revealed he communicated with a ghost while filming his A&E show The Lowe Files. “It was through the Ovilus. There’s a device they use that the theory is it can translate… that the spirits can talk through this device, for a lack of better term,” Rob said during a Television Critics Association’s press tour. “Don’t ask me how, don’t ask me the science, I don’t know.” Rob added, “It said the dead woman’s name where she was murdered. Judge for yourself… I don’t want to seem like a nut. I don’t want to end my career here.”

The Lowe Files was never renewed for a second season, but at least Rob will always have that ghostly memory.
