Sonequa Martin-Green is the new leading lady in the Blue Bloods franchise, as the show is expanding with the upcoming offshoot, Boston Blue. As she gears up for her return to CBS with costar Donnie Wahlberg, many are curious to know more about the actress, including her love story with her husband, Kenric Green.

How Did Sonequa Martin-Green Meet Husband Kenric Green?

Sonequa married Kenric in 2010. They first met in 2009 when they were working together on a play after they had both moved to New York to pursue acting.

“Here I am moving from Alabama to New York, so here we are moving from two different sides of the country, and we meet in New Jersey. It was just meant to be; it was destined by God,” she recalled in July 2013, per the Franklin County Times.

Kenric also recounted his version of the events from the night he met Sonequa.

“We met while acting in a play together in Princeton, New Jersey,” he said. “There were something like eight cast members, and at least five of them were 55 or older, so I liked my chances of stealing her time and getting her to focus on me in the moment.”

“When I got to know her I realized that she was 1. pretty and 2. she laughed at my jokes, so I was pretty sold from there,” he said.

Kenric is an actor from Southern California. His earliest IMDb credit is from 2006’s They’re Just My Friends. Through the years, he has appeared in The Originals, Hawaii Five-0 and Wed-Locked. From 2015 to 2020, he portrayed Scott in The Walking Dead, the AMC series in which Sonequa starred as Sasha. He also appeared in a 2019 episode of Star Trek: Discovery. Sonequa starred in Star Trek: Discovery as Michael Burnham from 2017 to 2024.

“We’re starting to present ourselves as a package, and that’s been really dope,” she told People in February 2025 of working with her husband on projects. “We have our production company that we’re excited to nurse because it’s still a newborn baby, and we have an Amazon film coming out Christmas day of this year, Sarah’s Oil, where we got to play husband and wife, and I feel like that was a real culminating moment for us. Like, wow, here we are after all this time. Here we are.”

The couple welcomed two kids together, son Kenric Justin III and daughter Saraiyah Chaunté Green.

Sonequa said that her marriage to Kenric “feels like it has been a lifetime, but that we’ve also just begun.”

“All of a sudden we’ve been married a real long time,” she reflected. “We are the seasoned married couple in the room. Now, we are the ones that people ask advice from. We are the ones that are like, ‘Oh, y’all been married a long time.’”

She also shared the secret to the longevity of their marriage.

“We recommit ourselves daily,” the Holiday Rush actress revealed. “You are going to be different versions of yourself as you grow. Sometimes we put words to it and we say, ‘OK, with who we are today, I commit my life to you.’”
