Marie Osmond Reveals Why She Didn’t ‘Just Leave’ Her Kids at Home While She ‘Toured the Country’

Although mom of eight Marie Osmond has tons of responsibilities for her Hollywood career, the decisions she makes are always for her family. That’s why the former Donny and Marie star didn’t “just leave” her children at home while she “toured the country” as a legendary singer during the ’80s and ’90s.

“When my kids were little, I couldn’t just leave them in a house … because home is where we ALL were, together,” the 60-year-old penned in a lengthy Instagram post on Sunday, August 30. “I grew up that way, so my children spent the summers on a bus with me going from show to show … sometimes 260 days a year.”

While Marie was “concerned they would miss out on some ‘normal’ kid [experiences],” she knew it was “most important” to keep her children — Stephen, 37, Jessica, 32, Rachael, 31, Brandon, 23, Brianna, 22, Matthew, 21, Abigail, 17, and late son Michael — all together. “I am so happy to hear, now [that] they’re grown, those years were some of their happiest memories.”

In her post, the “Paper Roses” songstress credited her late mother, Olive Osmond, for teaching her the “importance of a home” as a child. Marie says because she has “grown children and grandchildren” of her own now, she realizes how much she truly appreciates all her beloved mom taught her.

“Of all the memories I have of being a child, what I remember and am the most grateful for, is the influence and example of [having] a loving mother,” she sweetly continued. “She made sure we knew, above anything else, that her most important work was making a home for us, her family.”

Despite touring as a teen idol alongside brother Donny Osmond in the early ’70s, Marie said Olive — who died in 2004 — never left their side. “No matter where it was, Huntsville, a bus or even a hotel on the other side of the world, it felt like home,” she gushed. “That meant everything to me as a child because I knew WE, her children, were everything to her and my dad [George Osmond].”

Like she did back in the day, Marie is still juggling her multiple gigs while being the best mom and grandma to her big family. Although the Talk star has been in showbiz for nearly five decades, you shouldn’t expect her to retire any time soon.

“I feel so blessed that I’ve done so many different things,” the Dancing With the Stars alum gushed to Closer Weekly in 2019. “I believe you always have something that you want to do. I probably will work until I’m dead just because it’s always been a safe place for me.”

“When life brought lots of lemons,” including the death of her son Michael in 2010, “work was my lemonade,” Marie said. “I had to support my family and it was just a safe place. I loved it. That’s something that I could do and get on stage and kind of leave all the problems behind for an hour.”
