William Shatner revealed he had to undergo surgery to fix his “wrecked” shoulder following a scary horse riding accident.
The Star Trek actor, who turns 95 later this month, accepted an award on behalf of the beloved space exploration franchise during the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films’ 53rd annual Saturn Awards in California on Sunday, March 8.
Fortunately for fans who know him as the seemingly invincible Captain James T. Kirk, Shatner did not appear visibly injured while accepting the award. However, while speaking to the press afterwards, he had to request a chair, noting he felt “old, tired and kind of hurt,” per Page Six.

That’s when the TJ Hooker star explained that he would be undergoing surgery on Wednesday, March 11, and detailed the accident that caused it.
“I ride the horses that can compete in equine skills, which is fast down and ends on a sliding stop,” he explained. “And the horse that I owned, I came off.”
“And she had a habit of going too far, like six inches to the side,” Shatner continued. “And I’m riding it. And I’m ready. And she goes [too fast and sent him flying].”
Luckily, in addition to acting, Shatner is a former stuntman, so he knows how to take a fall.
However, at almost 95, he had to admit he’s “not a young stuntman anymore.”
“I started to roll, but hit the dirt with my shoulder,” he said. “So I wrecked my shoulder.”
Luckily, the star was optimistic about the surgery, even if he was a little fuzzy on the finer details, calling the procedure “a reverse something or other.”
“You put the ball in the socket and the socket in the thing, and you come out 10 hours later, and you’re pain-free,” he said of the surgery. “So that’s what I am meandering towards.”
This isn’t the first time Shatner has had a health scare in the past year. TMZ reported in September that he was taken to the hospital after suffering an issue related to his blood sugar.
“I over indulged. I thank you all for caring but I’m perfectly fine,” Shatner later wrote on X at the time.
