While you’d expect anyone with a royal title attached to their name to be devouring caviar most meals, that isn’t exactly the case — at least not for Kate Middleton and Prince William, who are pretty darn healthy when it comes to their eating habits.

Not only do Kate, 37, and William, 36, not have a chef in their royal home, the Duchess of Cambridge prefers to do the cooking for her husband and their three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, herself. “They have a small household and can fend for themselves,” a source told Life & Style in the magazine’s latest issue, on newsstands now. In fact, Kate has been known to love making spicy vegetable curry and has even made pizza dough with George, 5, and Charlotte, 3.

But you won’t run into much junk food at Kensington Palace, because the pair keeps their diet extremely green. Kate is known to maintain a lean-protein, low carb diet, which is often called the Dukan diet. And what does this consist of? Everything from raw dishes like gazpacho, ceviche, and tabbouleh. The mother-of-three is also all about spinach, kale, coriander, and watermelon salads. But don’t worry, Kate balances all that out with a blueberry smoothie.

As for the Duke of Cambridge, he has also found himself on the health-route, as his diet includes lean venison meat, fresh veggies, and homemade fish sticks. In fact, his brother, Prince Harry, eats a similar way, too, but that’s mainly because his wife, Meghan Markle, is a vegan. And even though both couples have similar diets, there is apparently something that not only do they all stay away from, but it’s a food that even non-royal folks may want to take it easy on: garlic. Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, once said, “I hate to say this, but garlic. Garlic is a no-no… You always have to lay off the garlic,” Camilla, 70, told MasterChef Australia judge Gary Mehigan. Why? Well because it gives you bad breath, of course.

So if you ever want to get tangled up in the royal life, just know that you have to keep your food choices green and lean. And forget about that pasta with extra garlic.
