As Kate Middleton’s due date approaches, the royal baby rumor mill is going into overdrive. Now, Prince William appears to have inadvertently added fuel to the speculative fire, by seemingly dropping a hint about his third child’s gender after attending an Aston Villa soccer match this week.

William, who is a lifelong Aston Villa fan, celebrated after player Jack Grealish scored a late goal for his side in the match against Cardiff City, bringing the end score to 1-0 in their favor. After his team’s success, William reportedly told fans, "I’m going to insist the baby is called Jack," in honor of player Grealish, before eventually adding "or Jackie."

William’s slight pause before checking himself and adding a female equivalent name has inevitably been interpreted as a clue to the gender of the new baby, though it’s probably not worth reading too much into the prince’s lighthearted comment. It’s previously been reported that William and Kate have decided not to learn which sex their latest addition will be, and when it comes to naming their offspring, the royal family are typically obliged to pick from an extremely narrow pool, which mostly consists of traditional names previously taken by their ancestors (see the Cambridges’ two older children Prince George and Princess Charlotte as perfect examples).

Recent stats from bookmakers suggest that Alice is the current favorite for the new addition with odds now at 4-1, with previous pick Mary slipping to 9-2. "With the barriers now up at St Mary’s Hospital and the birth of the royal baby imminent, the name game is heating up for [betters] and it’s the name Alice which we’re seeing all the money for this week," Katie Baylis, a spokesperson for Paddy Power Betfair, recently revealed.

"For the first time, Alice has become favorite at 4-1 from 5-1 yesterday, after a flurry of bets, while long-time favorite Mary is now out to 9-2, with bets on the name drying up this week," she added. Philip, Victoria, and Arthur also remain hotly tipped names for the third Cambridge child.
