‘Steel Magnolias’ Star Shirley MacLaine, 92, Spotted After Dolly Parton’s Death
Shirley MacLaine, 92, was spotted dining in Malibu days after the death of ‘Steel Magnolias’ co-star Dolly Parton.
Iconic entertainer Shirley MacLaine, 92, was recently spotted for the first time since the death of her Steel Magnolias co-star, Dolly Parton.
On August 28, The Daily Mail shared photos of MacLaine visiting a restaurant in Malibu, California. She looked comfortable and casual, wearing a black short-sleeved shirt, gray sweatpants, and black moccasins. She slung a black purse over one wrist and wore a gold watch and several rings.
According to Hello!, MacLaine dined at Kirsty’s, a place she has been spotted at before. She visited the restaurant with a female companion, holding her companion’s arm as she carefully walked to the restaurant’s outdoor terrace.
MacLaine, who turned 92 in April, is mostly living a private life away from the spotlight these days. Once in a while, however, she is spotted at a favorite Malibu dining spot, much like this outing.
Just a couple of weeks ago, on August 17, a brief video message from MacLaine was shared on the Southampton Playhouse Instagram page. MacLaine was promoting a screening of one of her early movies, Sweet Charity, that the theater planned to show on August 25.
After Parton’s death on August 25, MacLaine provided a simple statement about the loss to People. She shared, “God sent her to us, and she has returned home.”
MacLaine and Parton starred in Steel Magnolias alongside Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Olympia Dukakis, Daryl Hannah, Sam Shepard, and Tom Skerritt.
The 1989 film featured Roberts as Shelby Eatenton and MacLaine as the sarcastic and grumpy neighbor, Ouiser Boudreaux. Parton played hairdresser Truvy Jones, who owned the beauty salon where the close-knit group of women in their small Louisiana town frequently gathered.
While she hasn’t acted in several years, MacLaine’s IMDb page lists several projects she’s doing that are currently in various stages of production.
In April 2024, as she turned 90, MacLaine told People that she was grateful she still had the opportunity to work. A few years earlier, she told the media outlet, “I have what I consider just a perfect life… I eat what I want, when I want.” She has also credited her friends, health, and animals for her longevity.
