British supermodel Twiggy may have built her fashion legacy with a pixie cut that defined the 1960s, but these days the style icon is embracing a very different look.
Twiggy (real name: Dame Lesley Lawson) became the face of the swinging ’60s with her cropped blonde hair and doll-like lashes. But these days, she doesn’t miss her signature pixie cut even one bit.

Twiggy unveiled a fresh new look on Instagram on Tuesday, June 16, trading her cropped hairstyle for long blonde locks and soft, face-framing bangs.
Standing next to hairdresser John Frieda, the British icon looked back on the day their paths first crossed.

“So lovely to join John Frieda to celebrate 50 years of his salons. We first met in 1967 when he was a junior stylist at Leonard’s hairdressing salon in Mayfair and he would wash my hair! His talent and expertise have given so much to the hairdressing industry. He’s also one of the loveliest people,” she captioned the photo.
In a 2020 appearance on Jessie Ware’s Table Manners podcast, the supermodel revealed she never wanted her iconic pixie cut in the first place.

Twiggy recalled being just 16 when she walked into a London salon and caught the attention of famed stylist Leonard Lewis, known as Leonard of Mayfair.

“I went in to have it shampooed and set and Leonard saw me and he said, ‘Let me do my new haircut on you,'” she told Ware during the podcast.
“I’d been growing my hair. For a moment, I kind of went, ‘I don’t know whether I want my hair cut.’ But I was in this very posh salon in Mayfair, so I was a bit too shy to say I don’t want it done, and I kind of nodded.”
