“Sins of the Father” – McCall is contacted by Samantha Reed, whose father, ex-CIA agent Elijah Reed, is missing. While Samantha joins forces with the Equalizer team to track down the agency legend, she learns more about her family’s past in the Dominican Republic, on the CBS Original series THE EQUALIZER, Sunday, April 20 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs). It was over before it even happened. The spinoff planned for The Equalizer has officially been cut at CBS, multiple outlets reported on Tuesday, April 22.

The proposed spinoff was supposed to star Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz. On Sunday, April 20, the episode of The Equalizer season 5 that aired on CBS was reportedly supposed to serve as the backdoor pilot for the spinoff.

In a clip from the April 20 episode posted on the show’s Instagram account, fans were torn about the spinoff idea to begin with.

“Loved this episode, so much female power!! But please don’t end this show for an Atlanta spinoff!” one person said in a plea.

Another person wrote, “@cbstv @paramountplus we want season 6 of @theequalizercbs not a spin off!”

Someone else echoed the same point, writing, “@theequalizercbs @cbstv @queenlatifah so this entire episode was about introducing the spinoff show?? REALLY?!”

“The way this was BS all the way through. We don’t want no spinoff keep the budget for season 6 and 7. Time being off, not enough promo, no news of renewal yet, BUT a spinoff in ATL?!! What the helly??! Are you even listening to the EQ’s audience. Anywayz,” another person remarked.

“Pls renew the equalizer for season 6.. I was really bored with this episode writers, and i wasn’t the only one. we don’t want a spin-off,” another person noted.

“This episode was not so cool, seems like its a whole different show with Robyn featuring like a guest in it…if we will agree to a spin off, the lead characters in the equalizer must be lead characters in the spin off, its either that way or nothing…its so annoying we didn’t get to see our love birds together…we miss them already…fix this pls…we need a season 6,” another agreed.

Someone else wrote, “Tonight’s episode seemed like a commercial for something that didn’t include Queen. And I don’t like that.”

The Equalizer has yet to be renewed for season 6. It remains the only scripted show that has yet to be canceled or renewed on the network for 2025-2026.

“This is my entire family’s favorite show. CBS must add another season,” someone else commented on another Instagram post shared on the show’s official account.

“I’m NOT READYYYYY!!!! I need another season,” another begged.

Other shows, including S.W.A.T., have already received their grim fate about being canceled. The Shemar Moore-led series lasted for eight seasons.

“It’s heartbreaking news, primarily because it’s been such an immense pleasure working with this cast and crew to put out a show that we’ve always been proud of,” S.W.A.T. showrunner and executive producer Andrew Dettman said in a statement, per Variety, in March. “They are truly an extraordinary group of people who have all worked so hard and have been so dedicated for all these eight seasons, overcoming countless challenges. I can’t give them enough credit. I feel so privileged to have been a part of the S.W.A.T. family.”

“It’s been an extraordinary privilege to work on S.W.A.T. for eight seasons and tell the stories of Hondo and 20-Squad,” executive producer Shawn Ryan echoed in a statement. “I thank our fans, Shemar Moore, the rest of our cast, our producers, Sony Pictures Television, CBS Studios and CBS for the opportunity. Most of all I want to thank our tireless, dedicated crew who made our writers, directors and cast always look good. My greatest concern right now is for them.”
