CBS’ 2025-2026 TV lineup is full of interesting shows and many famous faces. The network confirmed that Boston Blue will be taking over a familiar time slot in the lineup once it premieres this fall.

On Wednesday, May 7, the network shared that Boston Blue will be airing on Fridays from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET when it airs this fall. The time slot previously belonged to mothership series Blue Bloods, in which Boston Blue is an expansion of.

Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck previously spoke out about how the series and the cast were able to win the time slot despite odds being stacked against them amid his frustration to see the show canceled after 14 seasons.

“I’m kind of frustrated. During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful. In a Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 (in total viewers, we were No. 9 out of 100), if you discount the three football shows, we’re No. 6!” he told TV Insider in October 2024 when the second half of Blue Bloods’ final season began airing.

“I’m not going to turn into a bitter old guy saying, ‘Get off my lawn!’ I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe,” the Emmy winner added. “My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go. So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out. I remember after the weekend [of the final episode’s shoot], I said, ‘I’ve got to get to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday.’ Well, there was no Monday. It’s just going to take a while.”

Boston Blue will see Blue Bloods character Danny Reagan tackle a new career with the Boston PD with his new partner, Lena, who will be played by Sonequa Martin-Green. A Boston Blue promo was also released by the network, with star Donnie Wahlberg teasing what’s to come.

“Donnie Wahlberg here. Can’t wait for you to see my new series, Boston Blue, coming CBS fall,” he said in the clip.

The show will begin filming later this summer and is slated for a fall release. Donnie’s already promised some big surprises and hopeful updates to those who were longtime fans of Blue Bloods.

“No Blue Bloods fans will be disappointed,” Donnie, 55, said about Boston Blue at a CBS press event. “We are really working on this universe in a way that I think the Blue Bloods viewers are going to be very happy.”

“Danny’s story will continue the Reagan family’s. You can’t have Danny without Reagans,” he revealed. “There’ll be connective tissue to the old family. But we’re also going to get to discover a new family — the Silvers —  and carry on the tradition of telling their stories and still telling the Reagan stories.”
