It was one of the scariest incidences that changed her outlook on life forever. Demi Moore recently opened up to Gwyneth Paltrow and Arianna Huffington about going through rehab for addiction and an eating disorder back in 2012 at the 2019 In Goop Health summit and recalled how “my health took me down.”

The 56-year-old explained how she prioritized her health and the people in her life in the “last seven years” at the event on Saturday, March 9. “My relationships are more important, and what I do comes second,” Demi admitted, via People. The Ghost actress also noted that she doesn’t seek validation from anyone anymore. “What does it matter what anyone thinks?” she proposed. “Nothing is that bad.”

When Gwyneth asked Demi and Arianna how they’re teaching their daughters to grow up in the world we’re currently living in, Demi said turning her life around had a huge effect. “I feel like the more that I work on myself it’s automatically imparted because that’s how I’m living, and I don’t have to work as hard to show them or teach them,” she said of her girls, Rumer, 30, Scout, 27, and Tallulah, 25, all of whom she shares with ex-husband Bruce Willis.

The brunette beauty added that her daughters teach her things every day, too. “I already think they’re more evolved and more confident and less apologetic for who they are and the space that they’re taking,” Demi told Gwyn, 46. “I think I’m getting more insights from them than I’m giving.”

This isn’t the first time Demi has bravely opened up about her health battle. This past October, the Striptease star spoke out about having low self-esteem. “I was spiraling down a path of real self-destruction and no matter what success I had I just never felt good enough,” she shared while accepting the award given by LA-based women’s recovery center and sober living program Peggy Albrecht Friendly House.

She continued: “I had absolutely no value for myself and this self-destructive path, it really quickly brought me to a real crisis point. It wasn’t clear at the time, maybe it was divine intervention, but two people who I barely knew stepped up and took a stand for me and presented me with an opportunity, which I guess was more like an ultimatum — unless I was dead, I better show up.”

We’re so happy to hear that Demi is on the road to happiness.
