Demi Moore Gently Corrects Fans, Setting the Record Straight About How To Say Her Name

After more than four decades in the spotlight, Demi Moore still has to remind people how to pronounce her name.
The Substance star, 63, was caught setting the record straight on the street in New York City in an Instagram reel shared by @girlfromjerseycity on Tuesday, April 28.
“Remember, it’s ‘Duh-MEE,’ ” the Landman actress reminded autograph seekers with a smile after some could be heard calling her “DEM-ee.”

It’s not the first time the Ghost star has clarified how to deliver her moniker, which is short for Demetria.
In a 1988 interview with TV station KCRA’s Harry Martin, the news anchor — who died in 2008, aged 81 — called her “Day-me” when posing a question about a “change of pace” in her life.
After correcting him, she revealed the origin of the unique moniker.
“My parents found this name, and we’re quite fond of it,” she explained. “I think they pulled it out of a magazine or something.”
Asked whether “everyone pronounces it correctly” or if she has a “tough time with it,” she acknowledged, “I have a tough time with it. But it’s OK.”
But she insisted she doesn’t get “mad” when people mispronounce it.

And she’s even discussed it with another famous Demetria — singer and actress Demi Lovato, who goes by “DEM-ee.”
“She’s from Texas and I’m from New Mexico, so our families say our names the same, but we each individually pronounce it differently,” the Oscar nominee told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show in 2017, via Entertainment Tonight. “It works better with our last names.”
