There’s already been some major hints thrown around by Donnie Wahlberg about what to expect from his upcoming CBS series, Boston Blue. The Blue Bloods offshoot sparked fans’ excitement when a teaser trailer for the show was released in March 2025.

Donnie Wahlberg Reacted to ‘Boston Blue’ Announcement

It was announced in February 2025 that Boston Blue was in the works. CBS revealed the official synopsis of the show as, “In BOSTON BLUE, a universe expansion of the long-running top drama BLUE BLOODS, Wahlberg will reprise his role as NYPD officer Danny Reagan as he takes a position with Boston PD. Once in Boston, he is paired with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.”

Shortly after the announcement was made, Donnie took to his Instagram Stories to react to the news about the new show. He shared a screenshot of an article about Boston Blue, writing, “See you soon #Thankful.”

Donnie Wahlberg Hinted ‘Blue Bloods’ Costars Will Appear in ‘Boston Blue’

Of course, with news of the expansion series came questions about whether or not Blue Bloods cast members will be making appearances on Boston Blue.

“Hope we see Baez on this new Journey,” one person commented on Donnie’s Instagram post, to which he replied with a winky face emoji.

“Can’t wait. I do hope some of the old cast makes some appearances. Still so sad that Blue Bloods has ended. Still miss it so much,” another person commented on the teaser trailer Instagram post. Donnie replied back, writing, “Same same!”

Another person said, “I wish it was the entire family that’s what made blue blood work not just 1 character.” Donnie told them to “tune in” with a winky face emoji.

Fans feel like his hopeful replies allude to their being cameos from his Blue Bloods castmates in Boston Blue. But, of course, only time will tell if that will come to fruition.

Donnie Wahlberg Hinted He Wants Will Hochman Going to Appear in ‘Boston Blue’

Will Hochman, who played Joe Hill on Blue Bloods, congratulated Donnie on Boston Blue in an Instagram comment, writing, “Legendary!” with three crown emojis.

Donnie responded, writing, “@willhochman my guy – counting on you to come visit your uncle on screen!”

Will wrote back, saying, “@donniewahlberg I’m fueling up the Chevelle as we speak!”

Joe had quite the character arc on Blue Bloods, becoming a true member of the Reagan family and being accepted by everyone in the end. It would be great to see Will reprise the role again, keeping his bond with Donnie going into a new era for the franchise.
