Former Police Officer Blames Princess Diana’s Death on Her Security Team

In a shocking new book by former French police officer, Daniel Bourdon — who briefly guarded Princess Diana's body following her death — he claims the crash that killed her was caused, in part, by her and boyfriend Dodi Fayed's incompetent security team.

During a 2008 inquest into the tragic 1997 car accident, a number of fatal errors made by her detail came to light, namely, the decision to allow off-duty security manager Henri Paul, who had been drinking, to drive the duo.

A hearing later found that Diana and Dodi were unlawfully killed due to Paul's "gross negligence." He also died in the crash.

In Diana: That Night, Bourdon argues the princess "did not have a level of security and protection that an icon like her deserved.

"It was DIY [Do It Yourself] and that allowed a chain of circumstances that had a tragic outcome," he writes of the fateful August night.

Apparently, the ill-advised plan included having Paul drive the couple from their hotel in Paris while Dodi's usual driver, Philippe Dorneau, remained at the front as a decoy.

Besides his opinions on the standard of her security, Bourdon also opens up about the 15 minutes he stood watching over Diana's body in the morgue at Salpetriere hospital. "It was a poignant moment," he shares. "Her face was magnificent."
