Kevin Costner Talks About the Challenges of Raising Kids in a Blended Family

As a father-of-seven, Kevin Costner knows a thing or two about parenting.

But the 60-year-old actor — who says he's had "two sets of children" — admits it isn't always easy to raise kids in a blended family.

"As [my] children interact together, there’s always this little bit of 'Do you care for us now as much as you do them?' — that’s just a natural thing that happens, and you have to talk about how big love is," 'The Bodyguard' star revealed in a new interview.

Kevin and his college sweetheart, Cindy Silva, married in 1978 and had three children together: Annie, 30, Lily, 28, and Joe, 26. Following his divorce from Cindy after 16 years of marriage, Kevin had a brief relationship with Bridget Rooney and they had a son, Liam, 19, [not pictured] in 1996.

In September 2004, he wed model and handbag designer Christine Baumgartner, 40. The couple have three children: Cayden, 8, Hayes, 5, and Grace, 4 [not pictured].

"It almost seemed impossible to love the first [child] any more than you loved them. And then suddenly the second one comes, and you think there’s so much room for love. There’s so much room," he continued.

"And that’s the way it is with children, and if there was any, perhaps jealousy that existed, I basically reminded [my older kids] that they were going to have twice as long with me on this planet. I said, 'Look, they’re not going to have what you had,' and at that point, they all just embraced each other," Kevin told 'mom.me.'
