Morris Chestnut spoke out to express his appreciation for all the viewers tuning into Watson after the hit CBS show was renewed for season 2.

“I just wanted to come on here real quick and say thank you so much to everybody who supported and watched the show. Our cast, our crew, the writers, everybody involved worked crazy hard to make sure to bring you the best entertainment possible,” the actor, 56, said in a new video shared via his Instagram account on Thursday, March 27.

“The studio gave us so much unwavering support but none of this would have happened without you, the fans, supporting and watching the show,” he added. “Watson season 2! We’re going to do our very best to bring a bigger, stronger, faster, more entertaining season again next year.”

Morris further shared his gratitude via his Instagram caption, writing, “Thank you for all the love and support! I can’t wait for Season 2 of @watsoncbs.”

Watson turned out to be a success for the network as its first episode garnered 18.7 million multi-platform viewers, making it CBS’ most-watched scripted episode of the 2024-25 TV season. The interest continued as each episode averaged 6.8 million total viewers (with Live+7 playback), ranking No. 7 out of the 14 dramas aired by CBS this season.

“CBS announced today that its hit freshman drama series WATSON has been renewed for a second season, to be broadcast during the 2025-2026 television season on the Network, and available to stream on Paramount+,” the network announced in a press release on Wednesday, March 26.

Morris portrays Dr. John Watson in the series, which is set one year after the death of his cherished friend and partner Sherlock Holmes.

Watson resumes his medical career at a clinic dedicated to the treatment of rare diseases, but quickly learns “that his old life is not done with him yet,” per IMDB.

In addition to Morris, Watson also stars fellow actors Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Inga Schlingmann, Ritchie Coster and Rochelle Aytes.

Morris, who also serves as an executive producer, discussed the duality of his character in a previous interview with VIBE. “Here, I’m teaching the young fellows about medicine and the world. We’re not just doctors; we’re also detectives. It was one of the things I love about the show,” he shared.

“I want everyone who comes into our house, which is our stage, to feel comfortable and at home. I want everyone there to treat everybody with respect. So they’re pretty much the same person, just to a larger degree on set,” Morris continued about his role.

After being greenlit, Watson now joins the network’s list of renewals including Tracker, Fire Country, NCIS, NCIS: Origins, NCIS: Sydney, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Elsbeth, Hollywood Squares, Matlock, Survivor, The Amazing Race and FBI.

An exact premiere date for season 2 has not yet been revealed.

Fans, however, can look forward to a new episode of Watson on March 30, at 9 p.m. ET.

The episode is called “A Variant of Unknown Significance” and will have a cameo from Whoopie Van Raam.
