U2’s Bono Undergoes Five-Hour Surgery Following ‘High Energy’ Bike Accident
It seems the injuries Bono sustained in his "high energy" bike accident were more gruesome than we thought.
The U2 frontman, 54, has reportedly undergone more than five hours of reconstructive surgery to repair his face, arm and shattered shoulder after the Sunday, Nov. 16 crash in NYC's Central Park.
The singer was allegedly rushed to a local hospital after the spill, which was caused by the avid cyclist when he tried to avoid a collision with another biker. His worst injuries a "facial fracture involving the orbit of his eye" and bone "tearing through his skin."
His list of ailments also included a broken finger, multiple fractures to his shoulder blade and six fractures to the elbow, 'Rolling Stone' reports.

"The bone was repaired with three metal plates and 18 screws," Trauma Surgeon Dean Lorich told the magazine of surgery on the Irish rocker's elbow.
Following the singer's accident, Bono's U2 bandmates announced they would be rescheduling their week-long residency on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,' which was set to begin on Monday, Nov. 17.

"We're sure he'll make a full recovery soon, so we'll be back! Much thanks to Jimmy Fallon and everyone at the show for their understanding," the band's statement on their website read.
Late last week it was additionally reported Bono was "extremely lucky" to have survived a near plane crash when the rear door of his private jet fell off mid-flight during a flight from Dublin to Berlin.
