Severance blew fans’ minds with the season 2 finale that saw Mark S. struggling to decide between his relationship with Helly R. or his relationship with wife Gemma. Fans are eager to know if there will be a season 3 of the show.

Will There Be a Season 3 of ‘Severance’?

Severance was officially renewed for season 3. The news was announced in a March 2025 press release from Apple TV+.

“All appears to be well at Lumon Industries,” the press release said. “On the heels of the second season of Severance breaking records as the most-watched series on Apple TV+, the global phenomenon and Emmy and Peabody Award-winning hit thriller has been renewed for a third season.”

Executive producer and director Ben Stiller shared his excitement in a statement.

“Making Severance has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of,” the Meet the Fockers actor said. “While I have no memory of this, I’m told making season 3 will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory as well.”

Adam Scott, who portrays Mark S. and serves as an executive producer, also spoke out after the show’s renewal.

“I couldn’t be more excited to get back to work with Ben, Dan, the incredible cast and crew, Apple and the whole Severance team,” he said. “Oh hey also — not a huge deal — but if you see my innie, please don’t mention any of this to him. Thanks.”

Severance also stars Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, John Turturro, Christopher Walken and Patricia Arquette.

Showrunner Dan Erickson Hinted When to Expect Season 3 of ‘Severance’ to Come Out

Fans had to wait three years for season 2 to be released after the cliffhanger that season 1 left off on. Of course, one of the questions on everyone’s minds is if we will have to wait a while for season 3.

Showrunner Dan Erickson acknowledged that the wait between the show’s first two seasons was long and shared a rather promising update about season 3.

“I would love to finish the show before I’m 70,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “I would hope that season 3 comes sooner. Certainly a big part of it was the fact that we had the strikes which shut us down for five or six months for production. And there was a difference between that and being shut down for Covid in season 1, because when we were shut down for Covid, I was still writing that whole time, and this time literally it was pencils down. I was making an effort to not even really look at or think about the scripts during that time.”

“It is always been a show that we’re always very careful with it and very meticulous about how exactly we’re telling the story,” he added. “That was the case on season 1 as well — actually, I think season 1 took about the same amount of time as season 2, but the difference is people weren’t waiting for it at that time. Nobody knew what it was. But having said that, having done it twice now, there is more of a sense of understanding procedurally what works and how to streamline it, so our goal is never to draw out people’s pain for three years. And I hope that we don’t have to do that again.”

Dan also told The Hollywood Reporter at PaleyFest LA in March 2025 that season 3 is already being worked on.

“I’ve sort of had to try to distance myself a little bit from the chatter because we’re working on it and we’re deep in talking season 3,” he revealed. “But it’s fun, it’s really fun to see people discover this thing that feels like it’s been our secret for the last couple of years.”
