The General Hospital Nurses’ Ball has been entertaining fans off and on for decades. From silly musical numbers to moving musical numbers, the ball to benefit the AIDS wing in Port Charles’ fictional hospital never fails to disappoint. While the 2026 Nurses’ Ball may have happened off-screen (there has been no mention of it yet), the 2025 ball produced a performance that left fans with their jaws on the floor.
General Hospital’s Gio Blows Port Charles Away
A year earlier, Gio Palmieri arrived in Port Charles as a relative of the Cerullo clan, having just transferred to Port Charles University to study the violin. He was introduced to the canvas at Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Chase’s (Josh Swickard) wedding, so it was only natural that he would eventually be revealed as Brook Lynn’s never-before-heard-of-long-lost son.
Brook Lynn had given birth to a baby boy in her teens after one night with Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) at sleep-away camp. She gave the baby to her mother to give up for adoption, but unbeknownst to her, Lois (Rena Sofer) gave the infant to her violinist cousin to raise, who had since passed. By the time the Nurses’ Ball came around, Gio’s new friends in Port Charles couldn’t wait to hear him perform.
That’s when fans got a true taste of actor Giovanni Mazza‘s true musical talents. Gio, the character, played “Glow,” blowing the audience away. Mazza composed the song himself when he was just 12 years old, per the official General Hospital X account, blowing the audience away on-screen and off.
“I was so moved by this performance!! This young man has a future!! We love Gio!!” one Facebook fan posted.
“It was just fabulous! I could listen to him play all day long!!” another fan concurred.
“Wow. If they had started Gio’s story with that performance, I think a lot of us would have been way more invested in his story. That was spectacular,” another GH fan commented on Reddit.
Although Gio’s life blew up moments after the performance when he overheard the truth about his parentage, the music and magic he created on stage will stay with fans forever.
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC and streams each weeknight on Hulu.
