Michael Douglas Optimistic About Marriage

Since they announced their split in August, divorce and reconciliation rumors have plagued Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones for months. But the “Last Vegas” star is optimistic when it comes to the split.

“I hope to resolve my marriage in a positive fashion," Michael told GQ in a recent interview. And with reports stating that the two will be spending the holidays together as a family, a happy ending for the couple appears more and more likely.

The actor also talked about his long-time career to the mag. “Well, I’ve always felt a little underestimated, personally,” he shared. “I've got a pretty good batting average over forty years. Sometimes maybe it looked easy."

But Michael shares that some of his best and biggest roles didn’t come about so easily. Take for instance his critically acclaimed role in HBO’s “Behind the Candelabra” where he embodied the extremely eccentric pianist Liberace. The project ended up on cable network HBO because major studios didn’t want it.

"I'm actually taking sort of joy, a revengeful joy, in the fact that all the studios turned it down,” said the 69-year-old. “To me it was just a reflection of how constipated and conservative the studios have become."
